This was always going to be the 'look what you got rid of' and 'look what you could have had' fixture and it'll be interesting to see which set of fans come out smiling at the end. Gary Rowett is the manager that Blackpool could have had but chose Birmingham whilst Lee Clark is the manager that Birmingham didm't want and thus ended up at Blackpool. |

What is it they say about you can't polish an inanimate, brown, smelly object? You can roll it in glitter but it will still be what you started with. If anyone wondered if this squad of players were under performing with Jose Riga at the helm, Lee Clark proved today they weren't, they're just not up to the task. Riga has left behind a notch potch of players who couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag, let alone a relegation fight. The new manager will have to test the promises of his Chairman before the loan window closes as this is a side desperately lacking quality. |

After the last international break we predicted that the six games in October/November until the next break could prove crucial for Jose Riga. As it happens, he fell at the halfway stage having lost the first three games against Huddersfield, Derby and Reading. So now the baton is handed to Lee Clark who'll probably wish the next break for the Euro qualifiers was sooner rather than later. If he is really looking to ingratiate himself with the tangerine faithful then Saturday's home game against Ipswich and the two away trips to Fulham and Leeds means he has eight days to try and find some results. |

If a picture paints a thousand words then this one (albeit from Tuesday) sums it up. The one comfort that Blackpool could take from this season was that in almost every game they'd played they competed and quite often it was only fine margins that didn't lead to a result. The Seasiders could have played the Norbreck Castle Retirement Society on Saturday and still not done any better. Things are about as bad as they can get. |

The Friday night madness against Cardiff seems a distant memory and the celebrations of our first win of the season feel longer ago than the two week international break, however finally after a 15 day break Blackpool return to Championship football on Saturday afternoon. The ground which has had more name changes than Cheryl Cole will play host to the Seasiders as they travel to the John Smith's Stadium in Huddersfield. |

First of all, thank you Cardiff City. Had you not have loaned us Joe Lewis this season then I doubt we'd have got to the 3 points we've reached so far. However, that clause about not allowing him to play against you makes a win at the 11th attempt all the more difficult. Just as Blackpool start to get a performance together which was arguably worthy of three points at Middlesbrough, it's back to square one at Bloomfield Road on Friday night. |

"You can't fault many of the players for effort, and at Brighton they defended the edge of our box as though their lives depended upon it. The main problem was that they didn't actually do anything else of note. We missed the best chance of the match, but it was just about our only one and we didn't threaten to create any more. Our passing was poor, Miller could not make the ball stick and Delfouneso was a luxury we could ill afford. Midfield, as a creative force, were practically non-existent. On the plus side, the back five were very good, well organised and rode their luck on the rare occasions it was needed. " |

This time last season there were dreams of Premier League football again as an impressive opening to the campaign left the Seasiders amongst the front runners at the top of the Championship. Since then it's been downhill all the way as defeat after defeat has followed and Blackpool have slumped from the top to the bottom in just 12 months. |

This was a game of of three penalties. The one Watford scored, the one Blackpool missed and the one at the end that the referee failed to give, if Blackpool are to move away from the bottom of the Championship they'll have to start taking their chances but more importantly bring in such much needed quality. |

Carole King once had a hit with the song 'It might as well rain until September' - quite apt after the August and the summer that Blackpool have had. There was always that question 'can we get away with not having a pre-season and a thrown together squad?'. Well that question has now been answered in the most stark way with six defeats in August and records broken left, right and centre. |
